Top officials from the US and China held "candid, in-depth and constructive" talks on economic and trade issues, including on AI, ahead of Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to Washington, official media reported on Monday.
The talks were held between Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and American Trade Representative Jamieson Greer in New York on Sunday, China's state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
Guided by the important consensus reached by the heads of state of the two countries, they have engaged in exchanges on important economic and trade issues of common concern, as well as the implementation of consensus reached in previous talks, by upholding the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation, the report said.

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Friday said that India's understanding of the concept of 'dharma' was distinct from Western notions of religion, asserting that the country has not discriminated among different faiths and this was its understanding of secularism.
Addressing around 1,700 Gen Z participants at the 'Yuva Dharma Sansad' here, Bhagwat said he was happy to see youngsters discussing 'dharma' at a time when some considered it an old people's affair.
"Our state has always been intermingling. It does not discriminate among its people. This is the meaning of 'panth-nirpekshata' for us," he said.
Bhagwat said the Western concept of secularism emerged from conflicts between rulers and religious authorities, and therefore, did not fit the Indian context in the same manner.
He said India had traditionally viewed material and spiritual aspects of life together rather than separating them.

India is witnessing a "once-in-a-generation demand window" in the semiconductor market and must transition from "Engineered in India" to "Invent in India" by taking ownership of complete systems and products, Infosys Senior Vice President Vikram Meghal said on Friday.
Speaking at SEMICON India 2026, Meghal said the traditional semiconductor pipeline is breaking amid massive shifts driven by artificial intelligence (AI), geopolitical supply chain challenges, and a transition from Moore's Law towards system-level scaling.
"AI data centre spend is projected to reach USD 6.7 trillion in the next few years, and 50 per cent of that spend is going to be compute, memory, and networking chips," Meghal said, adding that the industry is seeing a shift where the workload is now driving how chips are designed, rather than the chip driving the workload.
He identified three major demand fronts for the country: Made for India, Engineered in India, and Invent in India.

Three schools received bomb threats in the national capital on Monday, prompting authorities to carry out search operations, an official said.
These include Mother International School in Hauz Khas, Navy Children's School in Chanakyapuri and Bal Bharti School in Chanakyapuri, according to the Delhi Fire Services.
"A search is underway, and nothing suspicious has been found so far," the officer said.
